What are Terminals?

The terminal is the termination point of a conductor from a component, device, or network. sometimes, we call contacts or pins. It can also refer to an electrical connector located at this endpoint, serving as the reusable interface for the conductor and establishing a connection point for external circuits.

The presence of electrical terminals is indispensable for establishing connections between various circuits within an electrical system. They serve the crucial purpose of facilitating the transmission of electricity from a grounding or power source to the respective device or application. In intricate wiring systems, individual terminals are typically organized on an elongated strip commonly referred to as a terminal block. While their designs may vary depending on the specific application, terminal blocks generally encompass a modular and insulated housing that enables secure termination or connection of two or more wires.

Terminal connecting ways

The stripped end of a wire is typically secured with a terminal using crimping or soldering techniques. Crimping, the most commonly used method, involves compressing the terminal onto the wire using a specialized tool. This attached terminal then acts as an extension of the wire, enabling it to connect with pins, posts, or other terminals within the wiring system. Specifically referred to as compression terminals, crimped terminals are a distinct type of terminal.

What's the difference between 110, 187, 205, 250, and 312 types of terminals?

110 series terminals are 0.11-inch terminals, referring to the width of the main part of the male terminal, 0.11 inch is equivalent to 2.8mm, sometimes called 2.8 terminals. Therefore, we are also called 187 terminals for 4.8mm terminals, 205 terminals for 5.2mm terminals, 250 terminals for 6.35mm terminals, and 312 terminals for 8.0mm terminals.

Electrical Terminal Applications

Construction

In heavy-duty construction equipment, strong electrical terminals are crucial to make sure all the connections in visual displays, peripheral controls, cooling systems, and more are secure.

Electrical

The use of terminals is prevalent in the electronics industry to facilitate connections in outlets, circuit breakers, fuse boxes, and other electrical systems.

Automotive

The majority of an automobile's internal systems are controlled electronically, encompassing everything from the ignition and lighting systems to cutting-edge infotainment platforms. These intricate systems rely on a sophisticated network of electrical terminals and connectors to securely fasten individual wires and circuits.

Military

The military industry relies on MIL-SPEC terminals that can maintain reliable connections while protecting wires from various harsh environments. These terminals are installed in everything from military aircraft and vehicles to complex communications systems.

Communications

Modern communications systems are interconnected networks comprising transmission equipment, relay, and tributary stations, and data terminal equipment. Electrical terminals play a crucial role in organizing complex wiring systems and ensuring stable connections among individual circuits supporting the system.

Appliances

Terminals are indispensable for connecting wires in stoves, dishwashers, ovens, HVAC units, and beyond. To ensure optimal appliance performance, these devices must be engineered to endure rigorous challenges such as high vibration, extreme temperatures, and heavy usage.
